Lodoicea

1 species. Lodoicea maldivica is one of the world's most spectacular plants. Its seeds are the largest of any plant, weighing up to 40 pounds. It grows best in very warm rainforest conditions and acidic soil. Its massive leaves need protection from strong wind. Although we have had success in growing small plants outdoors at Fairchild, we have not yet grown one to maturity.
